Diversity & Equity
THE PODD BROTHERS’ COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY & EQUITY
As composers and arrangers, we bring a depth of experience with a range of genres and influences to our work. We recognize our positions as white creators who incorporate source material and traditions from music rooted in Black culture and experience (including gospel, jazz, spirituals, and folk, among others). It is our hope that our time spent studying, and collaborating with veterans of this music, is reflected in the care, respect, and enthusiasm with which we present our arrangements of this material to others.
In an effort to help sustain and support these and other important Black forms of musical expression, we donate a 10% “royalty” rate for any public-domain music we have arranged that is attributed to non-white sources. ie: arrangements of spirituals, hymns, etc. This donation will go to various non-profit organizations which support Black musical arts and artists - especially in those traditions from which we have been most heavily influenced. Podd Brothers Music contributes directly to non-profits in this field in addition to funding commissions and concert costs for ensembles that center and advance the voices of Black composers, artists, and performers.
We are currently donating to…
The Sphinx Organization:
Sphinx is a social justice organization dedicated to transforming lives through the power of diversity in the arts. Focused on increasing representation of Black and Latinx artists in classical music and recognizing excellence, Sphinx programs serve beginner students to seasoned classical music professionals, as well as cultural entrepreneurs and administrators.

Lavender Light
Lavender Light Gospel Choir is dedicated to keeping alive the black gospel music tradition in an environment supportive to lesbian and gay people, with a special ministry to black lesbians and gays. Through our performances and recordings, we seek to uplift, entertain and educate. We strive to be a visible force in this world, offering strength, peace and hope to our members and to our audiences.

If you know of an organization or ensemble that centers the advancement of music from Black, Latinx, or other non-white sources that could benefit from our donations, please feel free to reach out and let us know. We would be happy to hear from you.
